HORSES IN TRAINING
At any one time we usually have around ten horses in training and a similar number of young stock coming through. Many of our owners like to be with a range of trainers in a variety of locations, and ours are in the West Country, the Cotswolds and the Yorkshire Dales.
Was the top UK bumper horse in 2018, winning two Listed races. Has bags of stamina and is one for marathon chases on heavy ground. Maybe the Welsh Grand National?
An imposing and typically strong Yeats with scope in abundance. Brought along patiently and should make up into a lovely chaser. A hurdle win will be a bonus.
DUKE OF LUCKLEY
Bought in Ireland and looked after in Tipperary by PJ Colville, who used to be Assistant Trainer to Aidan O’Brien. Will start his bumper career later in 2021.
Bought to be a Flat horse and led Elarqam into the straight on debut at York. Now a hurdler / chaser. No superstar but a lovely character. Leased to a racing club.
Looked well above average when winning a bumper on his second start. May go for a Champion bumper in the spring. Well bred and an exciting horse to follow.
Had a great start, finishing 2114212, but then lost his way with some physical problems. A well-built and enthusiastic type with lots of potential for chasing.
Very well bred, from an Aga Khan family, and we expected him to be a junior bumper. All he has done since is grow and he is now a big chasing type. Need to be patient.
A really nimble and athletic jumper who won back-to-bacck hurdle races at Carlisle. Will improve for good ground and could be a smart 2m chaser in time.
Has needed time and patience, but is now rewarding us in spades. A magnificent staying chaser on heavy ground. Racing Post nicknamed him “the Mud Monster”.
MARES, FOALS & YOUNGSTERS
Our greatest successes have come from buying unraced foals and yearlings and then bringing them along properly and patiently. Giving them time to develop at their own pace. It was inevitable that co-owning mares and breeding from them would become part of the dream. And what a huge pleasure it is.
A very well-bred speed machine, and as tough as teak. We had high hopes for her but, alas, injury triggered retirement. In foal again to Gr.1 winning Havana Grey.
HAVANA GREY FOAL
Our lockdown lovely! A gorgeous filly foal who has exactly the same personality as her mum: tough and independent. May go to the sales or into training with Karl Burke.
Superbly bred by top broodmare sire Presenting, from the Best Mate family. A winning stayer for Charlie Longsdon. In foal to Getaway. A breeding syndicate led by friends.
We are huge believers in developing long-term relationships with trainers that we admire for their commitment and dedication. Karl Burke, Philip Hobbs, Anthony Honeyball, Martin Keighley and Charlie Longsdon all fit the bill, as do our pre-trainers PJ Colville, Claire Hart and John and Kirsty Weymes.
